Why people go to phone-free events

A phone-free event is a couple of hours with no feed, no pings and no phone, in good company. People go for three reasons:

  • To talk properly

Conversations with people who came to connect, not to scroll.

  • To read, draw or write

Relaxed alone-time, surrounded by others doing the same.

  • To give their attention a rest

A break from screens and social media, so focus and ideas come back.

How Feel Good Auckland works

  1. 1

    Organisers send us their events

Anyone running a phone-free event in Auckland can add it to the list, at no cost.

  2. 2

    We check and list it

We look for a real date, a real venue in Auckland and an actual phone-free format.

  3. 3

You browse or read the email

Everything on the list is here, and the highlights go out fortnightly in The Slow Post.

  4. 4

    You book with the organiser

Get tickets takes you to their page. They set the price and take the booking, not us.

  5. 5

You turn up and put your phone away

The rest is between you and the room.

Questions people ask first

What is Feel Good Auckland?

Feel Good Auckland is a free directory and fortnightly newsletter for phone-free events around Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland: cafés, reading hours, beach walks and dinners where everyone puts their phone away for a couple of hours.

Do you run the events?

No. Independent organisers run them. We list what is on and send the newsletter, and you deal with the organiser from the moment you click through.

How do I book?

Every listing has a Get tickets button that goes to the organiser's own page. You book and pay there. Feel Good Auckland never takes a payment and never sells a ticket.

What does an event cost?

The organiser sets the price, so it ranges from free to koha to a set ticket price. Whatever a listing shows is what the organiser told us, and their page is the source of truth.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancellations and refunds are between you and the organiser you booked with, under their terms. We hold no money and cannot refund a ticket.

Does it cost anything to list an event?

No. Listing is free, you keep every booking, and there is no commission. Use the form on the list your event page.

What counts as a phone-free event?

Phones go away for the length of the event, usually into a box or a pouch at the door, and the format gives people something to do instead: reading, drawing, walking, eating or talking.
